ACCREDITATIONS & AWARDS
St. Bartholomew School was designated a National Blue Ribbon School in 2011.
An important part of the U.S. Department of Education, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes outstanding public and non-public schools. In identifying several hundred outstanding schools annually, the program celebrates school excellence, turn around stories, and closing subgroup achievement gaps. The Award is both a high aspiration and a potent resource of practitioner knowledge.
Non-public schools are recognized as “Exemplary High Performing” if their student achievement in English and mathematics is among the highest in the country (top 15%), measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
All the elementary and secondary schools within the Archdiocese of Washington are accredited by AdvancED.
The AdvancED accreditation process is recognized for its ability to effectively drive student performance, ensure mission effectiveness, and promote continuous improvement. This approach to continuous school improvement confirms quality assurance in the systematic review of Archdiocese educational programs. Annually, our Archdiocesan schools collect and analyze data, set goals, plan, implement, and evaluate their school improvement efforts. This ongoing continuous review and evaluation of activities leads to authentic school improvement.
The AdvancED accreditation process surpasses state standards in that a group of educators, school administrators and superintendents from around the nation spend four days evaluating the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic schools and our school improvement efforts. The review includes interviews with all stakeholders. As part of the accreditation process, the Archdiocese must report to AdvancED its progress in addressing our team’s Improvement Priorities within two years and participate in a comprehensive review every five years.
